Coronavirus Hotspots in India: The Government has demarcated 130 districts as Coronavirus hotspots or red zones, 284 districts as orange zones and 319 districts as green zones, as per the list released on May 1, 2020. The list identifies all 11 districts of Delhi as red zones.
Other metropolitan cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata have also been identified as red zones. Post May 3rd, the Home Ministry had announced certain relaxations for the orange and green zones. The red zones, however, continued to remain under strict lockdown with the exception of certain necessary relaxations.
What are Red, Orange and Green Zones?
The Centre had classified all districts into three categories- red, orange and green zones:
Red Zones: The districts with higher coronavirus case load or have a high growth rate of the virus have been identified as red zones or hotspot areas.
Orange Zones: The districts with fewer cases have been marked as orange zones or non-hotspots.
Green Zones: The Districts with no new COVID-19 infection has been categorised as green zones.
Note: A red or orange zone can be marked as green if it does not report any new COVID-19 case for 28 and 14 days respectively.
