Agmark Certification & Registration in India
AGMARK is a certification mark for agricultural produce, i.e. a combination of two words which are AG and MARK, where AG stands for Agriculture and Mark means certifications, which means that they comply with a particular grade standard. This grade is notified by the DMI (Directorate of Marketing & Inspection), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare under Agricultural Produce (Grading Marking) Act, 1937. Its standard covers agricultural produce or horticulture products, including food or drink wholly or partly manufactured from any such products, fleeces, and animals' skins.
While framing the standards, ISO & other research Institutes are also consulted besides The FSSAI Act, 2006, Codex Alimentarius Commission, Trade Associations, etc.,
These standards differentiate between quality, and 2-3 grades are prescribed for each commodity. To date, grade standards for 222 agricultural commodities have been notified.
