CA Certifications vs Legal / Court Certifications — What's the Difference?
TAXAJ provides both types under one roof — CA-certified financial documents and court/advocate-issued legal certificates.
CA Certifications
Issued by practising Chartered Accountants (ICAI members) with a valid Certificate of Practice (COP). These certify financial facts — income, net worth, turnover, solvency, foreign transactions. Every CA certificate carries a UDIN (Unique Document Identification Number) generated on the ICAI portal, making it tamper-proof and verifiable.
Legal / Court Certifications
Issued by courts (District Court, High Court) or Revenue Authorities (Tehsildar, SDM), filed by enrolled Advocates. These certify legal rights — succession, legal heirship, probate of a Will, guardianship, certified true copies of court records. They involve a formal legal process with notice, hearing and court order.

Everything You Need to Know — CA & Legal Certifications India
Detailed write-ups on each major certificate type — legal basis, when needed, and key differences that matter for your application.
What is UDIN and Why Every CA Certificate Needs One
UDIN (Unique Document Identification Number) is an 18-digit number generated on the ICAI UDIN portal for every certificate attested by a Chartered Accountant. ICAI made it mandatory in 2019 after widespread cases of forged CA signatures. Format: 6 digits (ICAI membership no.) / 6 digits (date DDMMYY) / 3 digits (serial no.). Banks, RBI, the Income Tax Department, foreign embassies, and courts verify UDIN at udin.icai.org before accepting any CA-certified document. A certificate without UDIN is legally invalid. All TAXAJ CA certificates carry a valid, verifiable UDIN.
Succession Certificate vs Legal Heir Certificate — Key Difference
These two certificates are often confused. A Succession Certificate (Section 372, Indian Succession Act 1925) is court-issued and covers movable financial assets — bank deposits, FDs, shares, bonds, debentures, debts. A Legal Heir Certificate is issued by Revenue authorities (Tehsildar/SDM) and covers immovable property and government service benefits (pension, PF, gratuity). For bank account/FD claims of a deceased: Succession Certificate. For property mutation or government employee benefits: Legal Heir Certificate. TAXAJ's advocate team assists with both.
Net Worth Certificate for Visa — What Embassies Look For
Foreign embassies — particularly US, UK, Schengen (Germany, France, Italy, Spain), Canada and Australia — require a Net Worth Certificate from an Indian CA to assess your financial standing for a visitor/tourist visa. The certificate should show: total liquid assets (bank balances, FDs, savings), immovable assets (property with current market value), investments (stocks, mutual funds, insurance), and total liabilities. The certificate must be on CA letterhead, signed, stamped and carry a UDIN. TAXAJ formats the certificate as per each embassy's specific requirements. Delivery in 1–2 working days starting ₹999.
Probate of Will — When Is It Compulsory?
Probate is compulsory in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai for Wills executed by a Hindu, Parsi or Christian testator in relation to immovable property located within those cities (Section 213, Indian Succession Act). In other parts of India, probate is optional but advisable when the Will is disputed or when banks/institutions require court-confirmation of the Will's validity. Probate is filed in the District Court or High Court by the executor named in the Will. TAXAJ's advocate team files probate petitions across all states. Timeline: 3–6 months depending on court.
Turnover Certificate for Tenders — What CA Actually Certifies
When bidding for government or private tenders, a Turnover Certificate is required to establish that your business has achieved a minimum annual turnover in past years. The CA certifies this based on audited financial statements or GST returns (GSTR-1/3B) for the relevant years. The certificate must clearly state: name of business, PAN, GSTIN, financial year, turnover figure, and basis of certification (audited accounts / books of accounts). TAXAJ formats the certificate to match the specific tender authority's requirement (GeM, CPWD, NHAI, HPCL, Railways etc.). Most turnover certificates are delivered within 1–2 working days.
Form 15CB — Required Before Every Large Foreign Payment
Form 15CB is a CA certificate under Section 195 of the Income Tax Act 1961, confirming that TDS has been correctly deducted on a payment made to a non-resident or foreign entity. It must be obtained before filing Form 15CA online (for most remittances exceeding ₹5 lakh in a year). The CA certifies: nature of payment, applicable DTAA (if any), TDS rate applied, and that the remittance is not taxable or has been correctly taxed. TAXAJ provides both Form 15CA filing + Form 15CB certification as a combined service. Required for: import payments, service fees to foreign parties, royalties, dividends to foreign shareholders, NRI remittances.
Banks, RBI and embassies verify UDIN before accepting any CA certificate. A certificate without UDIN is legally invalid.
Banks require Succession Certificate for FDs/deposits. Legal Heir Certificate is for property mutation. Using the wrong one causes delays.
Making foreign remittances above ₹5 lakh without Form 15CB violates Section 195. Penalties and bank reversal can result.
US, UK, Schengen consulates have specific expectations. Generic certificates get rejected. TAXAJ formats per embassy requirements.
