How to Check UAN Passbook Status & PF Balance
Your UAN (Universal Account Number) is the key to checking your EPF (Provident Fund) balance and passbook. Once your UAN is activated, you can view your PF balance online, in the passbook, or even by SMS/missed call. This guide shows how to check your UAN passbook status and PF balance.
What is the UAN?
The UAN is a 12-digit number allotted by the EPFO that stays the same across jobs and links all your PF member IDs. Your employer provides it; you then activate it on the EPFO member portal to access online services.
Ways to check your PF balance / passbook
- EPFO Member Portal: log in at the EPFO member e-Sewa portal with your UAN and password → View Passbook to see contributions and balance. (The passbook is also available at the EPFO passbook site.)
- UMANG app: log in with your UAN/OTP and view your passbook and claims.
- SMS: send an SMS in the prescribed format to the EPFO number from your registered mobile to get the latest balance.
- Missed call: give a missed call from your registered mobile to the EPFO missed-call number to receive balance details.
Before you can check
- Your UAN must be activated and linked to your Aadhaar, PAN and bank.
- Your mobile number must be registered with the UAN for OTP/SMS/missed-call services.
- Employer must have credited contributions for them to appear in the passbook.
