However, tax audit reports relating to FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) continue to be governed by the Income-tax Act, 1961. Therefore, the existing Form 3CA/3CB and Form 3CD continue to apply.

Tax Audit Due Date — AY 2026-27

A common misconception is that 31 October 2026 is the tax audit due date. In the normal tax-audit case, this is not correct.

Particulars Due Date

Tax Audit Report – normal audit cases 30 September 2026

ITR – tax audit cases 31 October 2026

Tax Audit Report – Transfer Pricing cases 31 October 2026

ITR – Transfer Pricing cases 30 November 2026

The Income Tax Department confirms that the audit report is to be furnished one month before the due date of the return.

Form 3CA vs Form 3CB — Which One Applies?

The difference is simple:

Form 3CA applies when the assessee’s accounts are already required to be audited under another law and the tax audit is also required under Section 44AB.

Form 3CB applies in cases where the assessee is required to get a tax audit under Section 44AB but is not required to have the accounts audited under another law.

Both forms are accompanied by Form 3CD, which contains the detailed statement of particulars required for the tax audit.

Quick Tax Audit Checklist

Before uploading the report, the following should be cross-checked:

Correct AY and financial year selected

Correct Form 3CA or 3CB selected

Form 3CD reconciled with books

Turnover/gross receipts verified

GST turnover reconciled with books and returns

TDS/TCS details checked with AIS and relevant records

Depreciation and fixed assets verified

Loans, unsecured loans and related-party transactions reviewed

Section-wise disallowances checked

Cash transactions reviewed

Previous year’s tax audit report compared for consistency

Tax audit report properly uploaded and accepted

UDIN and other required details completed

A Practical Point for Tax Professionals

The biggest mistakes in tax audit work are often not complicated tax-law issues. They usually come from reconciliation gaps — GST turnover not matching books, TDS figures differing from AIS, incorrect depreciation, missing related-party details or carrying forward last year’s figures without verification.

So, rather than treating Form 3CD as a form-filling exercise, it is better to use it as a final review checklist for the financial statements and tax computation.

Conclusion

For AY 2026-27, remember the distinction: 30 September 2026 is the normal tax-audit report deadline, while 31 October 2026 is generally the ITR filing deadline for tax-audit cases. The 31 October tax-audit deadline applies to transfer-pricing cases. Form 3CA or 3CB depends on whether the accounts are audited under another law, while Form 3CD accompanies both.

With the transition to the new Income Tax Act, 2025, getting the AY 2026-27 compliance classification right is particularly important. For FY 2025-26, however, the old tax-audit forms continue to apply.

Tax audit due date for AY 2026-27 explained: know the 30 September audit deadline, 31 October ITR deadline, Form 3CA vs 3CB and key tax audit checklist.

[6

post-1668","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-compliances
["GET
