How to Download the GST Cancellation Certificate (Form REG-19): Step-by-Step

A GST cancellation certificate is official proof that your GST registration has been cancelled by the department. You may need it when winding up or transferring a business, closing your books, or demonstrating to vendors, banks or authorities that you are no longer registered under GST. This guide explains what the certificate contains and how to download it from the GST portal step by step.

What is a GST cancellation certificate?

Once the GST authorities approve your application for cancellation of registration (or cancel it on their own motion), the system generates a cancellation order in Form GST REG-19. This order, available for download from the portal, acts as your GST cancellation certificate. It confirms the date from which your registration stands cancelled.

What the certificate contains

The certificate includes your GSTIN, the legal/trade name of the business or individual, the effective date of cancellation, and the reason recorded for cancellation. It carries the details of the order so it can be produced as valid proof wherever required.

How to download your GST cancellation certificate

  1. Visit the official GST portal at https://www.gst.gov.in
  2. Log in with your GSTIN/username and password
  3. Go to the Services tab on your dashboard
  4. Select Registration, then Cancellation of Registration (or use Track Application Status)
  5. Choose Application Status and locate your cancellation application by ARN
  6. Click View to open the application and check its status
  7. Once the status shows the registration as cancelled, open the order (Form GST REG-19)
  8. Click Download to save the certificate as a PDF

Important points to remember

The certificate becomes available only after the department has processed and approved your cancellation — not immediately after you apply. Until then the application shows as pending. Even after cancellation, you must file the final return in Form GSTR-10 within three months of the cancellation date to avoid a late fee. Keep the downloaded certificate safely, as you may need to produce it for closure of bank accounts, deregistration with other authorities, or during future assessments.
